Next Generation Catamaran Lagoon 420

The Lagoon 420 is one of the most important boats to come out of the Lagoon Yard in recent years, as will be the first production recreational sailing yacht to be built with standard electric motors.

Curious to see how the new hybrid system work? To help inform, we have created a web section dedicated to tracking related items for sale, rental and service. This section also contains a complete tutorial in hybrid diesel-electric technology.

The Lagoon 420 will offer 3 or 4 cabin layout, each of which will feature a double bed with side access, and a bathroom with separate shower ... even an unseen pattern on a 42 footer!
Built on the technology of Leroy Somer, the new motors offer strong savings in carbon dioxide emissions and engine maintenance.

All Lagoon 420s coming out of the factory Laguna will be standardized on the new propulsion system, which generally require only a simple modification of the bearing for 20,000 hours.

Complete installation consists of two electric motors connected to propellers by straight shaft transmissions, one generator and two set of 6 batteries. When the batteries are 100%, the boat will be capable of operating with both motors for about two hours (depending on the speed).
When the batteries are 80% charged, the generator will automatically start and charge the batteries to provide electricity for the motors. While browsing, propellers will recharge the batteries.
All and all, the new Lagoon 420 is a ground breaking and innovative concept of a catamaran designers Van Peteghem and Lauriot Prévost.

Whether you are sailing or power will always be the sound of nothing but the sea as you make your way around the islands. What better way to live the kind of little secrets of this modern cat?
