There are many ways to find people free online ie you can use various methods like people finders, address finders, white pages, reverse look ups etc. With about 3 billion people using the Internet, there is the possibility of find someone online for free, especially if they live in countries where Internet use is high.

If you know at least something about the person you want to find, so you stand a chance even better. This is possible if you know some kind of information, but do not worry if you do not have any baseline information on the person.

So before you start looking for someone online, take time to write what you know about the person you're looking for - full name, phone number, email address, address, home address, occupation, social security number, etc. This birthday should be more like a profile of hobbies, names, interests, friends, relatives, worked for the organization, nicknames, schools attended, if you want to do a classmate search and more.
